About the show
France is in peril. D'Artagnan, Aramis, Athos and Porthos must save the day again, but this time they need help from younger recruits. If only D'Artagnan could accept that his daughter Marie is capable of more than just daring embroidery
In June 2006, the Company performed D'Artagnan's Daughter - a stage sequel to Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers and The Man in the Iron Mask. This swashbuckling comedy starred the rather aging Four Musketeers and a spirited younger generation attempting to save France from civil war. It was a witty, fast paced and action packed romp, which opened in dramatic style with pirates invading a nunnery. Featuring an evil chevalier disguised as a priest, a Duke with an inordinate fondness for beetles and a musketeer who is not as dead as previously thought, D'Artagnan 's Daughter was sure to amuse.
The play was written and directed by Company member, Alison Munro, who also had a cameo appearance as the nagging reverend mother in the opening scene. Following the success of previous Company productions of The Three Musketeers and The Man in the Iron Mask, Alison was encouraged by members to write another comedy adventure for the stage. An obscure French film called La Fille De D'Artagnan provided the title and the main character for the play. Dumas' Four musketeers also star, along with speckling of characters from history.
The play centred in on an evil plot by the Duchesse D'Orleans and Chevelier de Gite to usurp the King of France by revealing that the musketeers had swapped the royal twin brothers years before.
